BREAKING DOWN THE NBA DRAFT LOTTERY

HOW IT WORKS

• The NBA draft lottery will decide the first 14 picks fromthe teams that didn’t make the playoffs.

• Fourteen Ping- Pong balls numbered 1 through 14 will be put in a lottery machine. There are 1,001 possible combinatio­ns when four balls are drawn out of 14. Before the lottery, 1,000 of those combinatio­ns will be assigned to the 14 lottery teams.

• Officials will draw four balls from the machine, whichever team has that exact combinatio­n will be awarded the No. 1 pick. The process is repeated to select the second and third picks.

AT A GLANCE

What: 34th annual NBA draft lottery. When: 7 p. m. Tuesday. Where: Exhibit Hall, Palmer House Hilton.

On TV: ESPN. The lottery will air during the pregame show of the Cavaliers- Celtics game. The broadcast will air approximat­ely from 6: 50 p. m. to 7: 28 p. m. Bulls’ representa­tive: President Michael Reinsdorf will represent the team.

Bulls’ picks

First pick: With a sixth- worst record of 27- 55, the Bulls have a 5.3 percent chance of landing the first overall pick, a 6.02 percent chance of getting the second pick and a 6.96 percent chance of the third pick.

Second pick: The Bulls will have the 22nd overall pick, which they acquired from the Pelicans in the Nikola Mirotic deal.

Second round: The Bulls do not have a secondroun­d pick. That pick ( No. 37) was traded to the Thunder, who traded it to the Knicks.
