Trump: Some border crossers are ‘ animals’

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Wednesday hammered California for its so- called sanctuary immigratio­n policies. Trump surrounded himself with mayors, sheriffs and other local leaders from California who oppose the state’s immigratio­n policies, specifical­ly legislatio­n signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown last year that bars police from asking people about their immigratio­n status or helping federal agents with immigratio­n enforcemen­t. Trump claimed opposition to the policies was growing, insisting, “There’s a revolution going on in California.” He referred to some who cross the border illegally as “animals,” not people.

50 protesters killed in Gaza were Hamas members, group says

JERUSALEM — Fifty of the 60 protesters killed this week by Israeli fire along the border with the Gaza Strip were members of Hamas, the militant group said Wednesday. “It was clear to Israel and now it is clear to the whole world that there was no popular protest. This was an organized mob of terrorists organized by Hamas,” said Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon.

Evers home could be U. S. monument

JACKSON, Miss. — The Mississipp­i home of slain civil rights leader Medgar Evers is one step closer to becoming a national monument. The U. S. House voted Tuesday to pass a bill that would establish the Medgar Evers National Monument in Jackson. The federal government would take over the home from Tougaloo College, which supports the change.
