Cold shooting dooms Sky in loss to Sparks

Candace Parker scored 24 points on 10- for- 14 shooting to lead the Sparks past the cold- shooting Sky 77- 59 on Sunday in Los Angeles.

The Sky ( 3- 5) made 21 of 74 shots from the field ( 28.4 percent) and hit only one of their first 21 three- point attempts before making their last two when the game was out of reach.

Cheyenne Parker had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Sky.

The Sparks ( 5- 2) never trailed and went on a 17- 3 run spanning the third and fourth quarters to build to their largest lead at 69- 45.

GOLF Johnson reclaims top spot

Dustin Johnson shot a 4- under 66 to claim a six- stroke victory in the St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tennessee. It was his second PGA Tour victory this year and 18th of his career, allowing him to take back the No. 1 ranking he held for 64 consecutiv­e weeks before dropping down a month ago. He won the event for the second time, finishing with an eagle, three birdies and a bogey for a 19- under 261 total.

Andrew Putnam shot a finalround 72 to finish second.

The event was the last tuneup before the U. S. Open, which begins Thursday at Shinnecock Hills in Southampto­n, New York.

“I know what it takes,” Johnson said. “I’m going to have to play a lot like I did this week if I want to win next week.”

MLB Kluber first to 10 wins in AL

Ace Corey Kluber allowed two runs in eight innings to lead the visiting Indians past the Tigers 9- 2. The win improved Kluber ( 10- 2) to 5- 0 with a 0.76 ERA in five starts against division rivals this season, and he has won his last 11 decisions against teams from the AL Central.

“Division games are always huge because those are the teams you are fighting for a playoff spot,” Kluber said.

Cardinals pitchers allowed 11 walks, helping the host Reds to a 6- 3 victory. The Cardinals had won 13 consecutiv­e games against the Reds, including 11 straight in Cincinnati.

The Giants defeated the host Nationals 2- 0, giving Max Scherzer ( 10- 2) his first loss since April 4. He had won nine consecutiv­e decisions.

Albert Pujols had three RBI in the visiting Angels’ 7- 5 loss to the Twins, giving him 1,954 and moving him past Stan Musial into sixth place on the career RBI list. The top five are Hank Aaron ( 2,297), Babe Ruth ( 2,213), Alex Rodriguez ( 2,086), Barry Bonds ( 1,996) and Lou Gehrig ( 1,995).

MISCELLANE­OUS Bowyer wins in Michigan

Clint Bowyer won the rain- shortened NASCAR Cup Series race in Brooklyn, Michigan. Kevin Harvick was second, and pole winner Kurt Busch third, completing a 1- 2- 3 sweep for Stewart- Haas Racing.

Seahawks safety Earl Thomas said he will skip mandatory minicamp in hopes of getting a renegotiat­ed contract.
