Shaky Bumgarner ejected in Giants’ loss

Madison Bumgarner blewa sixth inning lead and was ejected on the way out of his second start of the season as the Marlins rallied past the Giants 7- 5.

Bumgarner allowed back- to- back hits to begin the sixth with a 4- 2 lead. Cameron Maybin hit a sacrifice fly, and then Justin Bour walked on four pitches, prompting Bumgarner to voice his displeasur­e to plate umpire Jeremie Rehak.

Bumgarner was able to convince manager Bruce Bochy to stay in the game, but then he immediatel­y allowed a game- tying hit by Lewis Brinson, ending his outing. On his way to the dugout, Bumgarner again had words for Rehak, who ejected him.

BoSox beat punchless O’s in 12

Brock Holt and Jackie Bradley Jr. each delivered a sacrifice fly in the 12th inning, and the Red Sox limited the Orioles to five hits in a 2- 0 victory.

A pitching duel between Dylan Bundy and Steven Wright ultimately was decided long after both starters departed.

Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts was reinstated from the disabled list before the game and went 1- for- 5 in the leadoff spot

Rays prospect Bauers hits first homer

Jake Bauers hit his first career home run, and the Rays went on to an 8- 4 win over the Blue Jays. Bauers’ two- run homer off Sam Gaviglia erased a 4- 3 Toronto lead in the fourth inning after Matt Duffy’s single. Ryan Yarbrough, who leads the major leagues with 44 relief innings, started and pitched six innings for the Rays.

Bauers, playing in his fifth major- league game, got on base his first four times and scored three runs. Rookie Willy Adames, recalled from the minor leagues, also drove in two runs for the Rays.

A little more than a year after a lifethreat­ening brain injury, Daniel Poncedeleo­n is ready to make his major- league debut. The Cardinals bought the 26- year- old right- hander’s contract from Class AAA Memphis before they opened a threegame series against the Padres.
