Kim takes 5-shot lead in Deere Bronico scores first goal, but Fire fall

Brandt Bronico scored his first MLS goal in the 86th minute, but the Fire suffered their third consecutiv­e loss with a 3-1 setback against host FC Dallas.

The Fire (6-9-5), who played a man down after Drew Connor was shown his second yellow card in the 70th minute, have just one win in their last seven games.

Carlos Gruezo, Kellyn Acosta and Reto Ziegler scored for FC Dallas (10-3-5), which is unbeaten in 11 home matches this season.

Bogaerts hits walk-off slam

Xander Bogaerts hit a gameending grand slam with one out in the 10th inning to propel the Red Sox past the Blue Jays 6-2. Red Sox right fielder Mookie Betts extended his hitting streak to 12 games with three singles.

◆ The Yankees’ Austin Romine came all the way around to score when the Indians committed two errors on his routine double in the seventh inning in a 5-4 victory.

◆ Jake Bauers homered for the second consecutiv­e game and drove in four runs, and the Rays scored 15 times in the final three innings to rally past the Twins 19-6.

◆ Royals catcher Salvador Perez will replace Wilson Ramos, who suffered a hamstring injury Saturday against the Twins, as the American League’s starting catcher in the All-Star Game. The Indians’ Yan Gomes was named to the roster to replace Ramos.

Michael Kim took a five-shot lead at the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois. Kim closed with four consecutiv­e birdies and shot a 7-under 64 for a three-day total of 22-under 191.

◆ Defending champion Scott McCarron and Bart Bryant shot matching 65s to move into a share of the lead with Jeff Maggert at 16-under 200 at the Constellat­ion Senior Players Championsh­ip in Highland Park. Illinois golf coach Mike Small (66) was two shots back.

Truex wins again in Kentucky

Martin Truex Jr. repeated as champion of the NASCAR Cup Series race at Kentucky Speedway. Truex appeared even more dominant than last July as he led 174 of 267 laps and swept the first two stages from the pole.

◆ Manny Pacquiao, 39, clinched his 60th victory with a seventh-round knockout of Lucas Matthysse, his first stoppage in nine years, and claimed the WBA welterweig­ht title.
