Thunder to trade Carmelo to Hawks

-

Multiple outlets reported Thursday that the Thunder will trade forward Carmelo Anthony and a protected first- round draft pick in 2022 to the Hawks for point guard Dennis Schroder and center Mike Muscala.

The Hawks reportedly will waive Anthony, clearing the way for him to sign as a free agent elsewhere. The Rockets reportedly are interested.

ESPN, which first reported the trade, said that the Thunder will send Muscala to the 76ers for swingman Timothé Luwawu- Cabarrot and that the 76ers will send forward Justin Anderson to the Hawks.

Anthony’s lone season with the Thunder was largely a bust. He averaged a career- low 16.2 points and struggled in his role alongside Russell Westbrook and Paul George.

♦ Nuggets rookie Michael Porter Jr. had back surgery in Dallas, and there is no timetable for his return.

The Nuggets selected the 6- 10 Porter with the 14th overall pick in the NBA Draft last month. He was considered a top- five selection coming out of high school before a back injury that required surgery limited him to three games at Missouri last season.

♦ The Celtics re- signed guard Marcus Smart, bringing him back for a reported four years and $ 52 million. Smart averaged 10.2 points, 4.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds last season.

♦ Forward Robin Jones, who averaged 5.5 points and 4.7 rebounds in 63 games for the NBA champion Trail Blazers in 1976- 77, died Monday in Chicago. He was 64.

Falcons won’t give Jones new deal

The Falcons reportedly informed receiver Julio Jones that they won’t renegotiate his contract, which still has three years and $ 47 million in guaranteed money remaining — at least not this year. Now the question is whether Jones will show up to training camp next week.

The Falcons haven’t been told if Jones will be at camp. Players are required to report Thursday, with the first practice the next day.
