John Lewis out of hospital, ‘clean bill of health’
ATLANTA — U.S. Rep. John Lewis, the 78-year-old civil rights icon and veteran congressman from Georgia, was released from the hospital Sunday evening after his weekend admission for an undisclosed reason. Lewis’ spokeswoman, Brenda Jones, said in an emailed statement that Lewis left the hospital a day after he was admitted for “routine observation.” “All tests have been completed, and doctors have given him a ‘clean bill of health,” Jones said in the statement. “He thanks everyone who shared their thoughts, prayers and concerns during his stay.”
Greece fire toll at 91
MATI, Greece — Fire officials in Greece raised the death toll from a wildfire that raged through a coastal area east of Athens to 91 and reported that 25 people were missing Sunday, six days after Europe’s deadliest forest fire in more than a century.
Glitch for American Airlines
FORT WORTH, Texas — The Federal Aviation Administration said no American Airlines flights took off nationwide for about 40 minutes Sunday after 1 p.m. because of an outage at the carrier’s main operating system and dispatch operation. Fort Worth-based American said in a statement the airline “experienced a brief connectivity issue” with one of its data centers.
Diamond cheers firefighters
BASALT, Colo. — Neil Diamond took to the stage Friday night to play “Sweet Caroline” for dozens of firefighters gathered at the command post for a fire burning near his home in central Colorado. Diamond retired from touring in January after he said he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
