Vikes sign WR Diggs to reported 5-year, $72M extension

-

The Vikings locked up one of their core offensive players with a long-term contract Tuesday, signing receiver Stefon Diggs to a fiveyear extension that runs through the 2023 season and making the star of the ‘‘Minneapolis Miracle’’ one of the 10 highest-paid players at his position.

Diggs has yet to post a 1,000-yard or 100-catch season, but his ability was on full display when he turned a sideline catch into a 61-yard touchdown as time ran out to lift the Vikings to victory against the Saints in the playoffs last season.

Multiple outlets reported Diggs’ new deal is valued at $72 million and includes an additional $9 million in possible incentives. Diggs, who will play the final season of his rookie deal for his original base salary of slightly more than $1.9 million, received a $15 million signing bonus.

Colts getting sweet hotel deal

Officials in Westfield, Indiana — the home of the Colts’ training camp — agreed to pay about $1.1 million over three years toward the team’s hotel rental, according to records.

Contract documents obtained by the Indianapolis Star through a records request show Westfield officials committed to paying half of the hotel-rental bill last year while publicly saying no city incentives would be used to help lure the Colts.

The Colts are leasing the 152room Cambria Suites for roughly 30 days each summer to accommodate players, coaches and staff.

Seahawks WR Baldwin ailing

Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin missed his third consecutive practice while dealing with an unspecified knee issue.

Coach Pete Carroll said after practice that Baldwin had a sore knee entering camp. He practiced the first two days before being held out of the last three practices.

Carroll said the Seahawks are going to give Baldwin a couple of weeks off to give him the downtime he needs before gradually working him back to full speed.

Another Chargers CB hurt

Chargers cornerback Trevor Williams suffered an unspecified injury to his left leg during practice, dealing another potential blow to the team’s depth in the secondary.

After being treated by the training staff, Williams left the Chargers’ practice facility on crutches with his left foot in a walking boot.

The Chargers already lost cornerback Jason Verrett to a torn Achilles tendon suffered during a conditioning test last week.
