MISCELLANEOUS It’s Djokovic vs. Federer
Novak Djokovic closed in on a Western & Southern Open crown — a title that has eluded him — with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Marin Cilic in Mason, Ohio. Then he watched Roger Federer advance to the finals as well when David Goffin retired in the second set with a shoulder injury. The two greats haven’t faced each other in two years because of injuries.
Kurt Busch grabbed an overdue short-track victory at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee. Busch won for the first time this season but took his sixth score on the 0.533-mile bullring. Kyle Larson was second.
Alabama outside linebacker Christopher Allen is likely out for the season after suffering a knee injury that will require surgery.
Georgia freshman tailback Zamir White suffered his second anterior cruciate ligament injury in less than a year, likely ending his hopes of playing this season.
Wisconsin starting wide receiver Quintez Cephus will take a leave of absence from the team in anticipation of being charged in an incident that took place in April.
