Disney’s hourly workers offered tuition as a company benefit

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Walt Disney Co. is offering to pay full tuition for hourly workers who want to earn a college degree, finish a high school diploma or learn a new skill, the company said Wednesday. As many as 80,000 hourly workers in the United States could be eligible for the program, which pays upfront tuition for employees taking online classes starting this fall.

Ford recalling hybrid charging cords

DETROIT — Ford is recalling the charging cords for more than 50,000 plug-in hybrid and electric cars in North America because they could cause fires in electrical outlets. The company says the 120-volt cords came with certain 2012 through 2015 Focus electrics and some 2013 through 2015 Fusion Energi and C-Max Energi plug-in hybrids.

Target online sales up 41%

NEW YORK — Target reported strong sales growth both at stores and online, helped by remodeled locations and new delivery services as well as a stronger economy. Like Nordstrom, Walmart and Home Depot, it also raised its outlook as retailers benefit from shoppers spending more freely. Target saw sales at stores open at least a year, a key measure of a retailer’s health, rise 6.5 percent, the strongest growth in 13 years. Online sales soared 41 percent, surging past the 28 percent jump in the previous quarter. “There’s no doubt, that like others, we’re currently benefiting from a very strong consumer environmen­t, perhaps the strongest I’ve seen in my career,” Target CEO Brian Cornell said.
