MLB has earliest start next season

Major League Baseball said all 30 teams will start the 2019 season on March 28, the earliest Opening Day in history, excluding internatio­nal openers.

The previous earliest Opening Day was March 29 of this year.

MLB will begin with the opening series in Japan between the Mariners and host Athletics at the Tokyo Dome on March 20-21.

The Red Sox and Yankees will play the first MLB games in Europe on June 29-30 in London.

There will be four regular-season games played at Estadio de Beisbol Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico — the Reds hosting the Cardinals on April 13-14 and the Angels hosting the Astros on May 4-5.

Peralta, Yelich pace Brewers past Reds

Rookie Freddy Peralta tossed seven scoreless innings, drove in a run with his first career hit and combined with two relievers on a five-hitter to lead the Brewers past the Reds 4-0. Christian Yelich homered and finished a triple shy of the cycle, reaching base five times and driving in two runs.

Acuna hits another leadoff HR as Braves sweep

Rookie Ronald Acuna Jr. hit his sixth leadoff home run, including his fourth in the last two weeks, and Freddie Freeman had a tiebreakin­g sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to lift the Braves over the Pirates 2-1 for a three-game sweep.

Zimmerman hits 11th career walk-off homer

Ryan Zimmerman hit his 11th career walk-off home run, a two-run shot with two outs in the ninth inning, to lift the Nationals to an 8-7 win over the Phillies.

Injury news

The Yankees put closer Aroldis Chapman on the 10-day disabled list with left knee tendinitis. Chapman left Tuesday’s 2-1 win over the Marlins in the 12th inning after feeling pain in the knee.

◆ Indians outfielder Leonys Martin will sit out the rest of the season because of a bacterial infection.
