Djokovic earns 14th Grand Slam title

Novak Djokovic won his 14th Grand Slam title (six Australian, four Wimbledon, three U.S., one French) and second in a row with a 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-3 victory over 2009 champion Juan

Martin del Potro in the U.S. Open final Sunday in New York.

Djokovic also won Wimbledon this year after having elbow surgery in February. His other U.S. Open wins came in 2011 and 2015.

The 31-year-old Serb, who won $3.8 million, is tied with Pete Sampras for the third-most major trophies for a man, trailing only Roger Federer’s

20 and Rafael Nadal’s 17. ◆ Serena Williams was fined $17,000 for three code violations during her loss to Naomi Osaka in the U.S. Open final Saturday. The fines come out of her prize money of $1.85 million.

MLB Ramirez joins 30-30 club

Jose Ramirez had a stolen base in the first inning of the Indians’ 6-2 loss to the host Blue Jays. He became the first player to have 30 steals and 30 homers in the same season since Mike Trout and Ryan Braun in 2012 and the first Indian to achieve the feat since Grady Sizemore in 2008. Ramirez joins Tommy Harper, Howard Johnson and David Wright as the only third basemen to do it.

Sammy Sosa (1995, 1993) is the only Cub to be in the 30-30 club. No one has done it for the White Sox.

Blue Jays right fielder Randal Grichuk left the game and was being checked for a concussion after slamming face-first into a security guard’s chair while chasing a foul ball.

◆ Ronald Acuna Jr. homered in the sixth inning of the Braves’ 9-5 victory against the host Diamondbac­ks to become the seventh player to hit 25 home runs in a season before turning 21, joining Mel Ott, Frank Robinson, Tony Conigliaro, Al Kaline, Eddie Mathews and Orlando Cepeda.

◆ Edwin Diaz earned the save in the Mariners’ 7-3 victory against the visiting Rangers, giving him 54 on the season, fifth on the all-time list. With one more, he will tie Eric Gagne and John Smoltz for third on the list. Bobby Thigpen (57) is second and Francisco Rodriguez (62) is first.

MISCELLANE­OUS Golf, NASCAR rained out

Rain washed out the scheduled fourth round of the BMW Championsh­ip at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvan­ia. The PGA Tour will decide Monday whether the final round will be played or the tourney will be ended at 54 holes, with Justin Rose (17-under 193) being declared the winner.

If Rose wins, he would become No. 1 in the world for the first time in his career and would be the No. 2 seed behind Bryson DeChambeau among the top 30 who advance to the Tour Championsh­ip in two weeks.

◆ Rain washed out the Brickyard 400 in Indianapol­is. The race, the final one before the playoffs start next Sunday in Las Vegas, will be run at 1 p.m. Monday.

◆ The Cavaliers signed free-agent guard David Nwaba to a one-year, $1.5 million deal. Nwaba averaged 7.9 points and 4.7 rebounds in 70 games for the Bulls last season.

◆ Duke quarterbac­k Daniel Jones is out indefinite­ly with a broken collarbone suffered in the third quarter against Northweste­rn.

◆ Oklahoma running back Rodney Anderson is out for the season with a right knee injury.
