Browns earn 1st win since ’16

-

Rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield, the No. 1 pick in the draft in April, came off the bench after starter Tyrod Taylor suffered a concussion late in the first half and rallied the host Browns to a 21-17 victory Thursday against the Jets.

The result ended a 19-game winless streak (0-18-1) for the Browns, who came back from a 14-0 deficit to win a regularseason game for the first time since Dec. 24, 2016 — a span of 635 days.

Mayfield was 17-for-23 for 201 yards and led four scoring drives — two that ended in field goals by Greg Joseph and two that ended in one-yard touchdown runs by Carlos Hyde, including the go-ahead score with 2:04 left.

Isaiah Crowell scored on two touchdown runs in the second quarter for the Jets, but rookie quarterback Sam Darnold was intercepted twice and sacked twice.

Giants WR Beckham tired of PED tests

Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. said on Twitter that he is frustrated with the NFL for seemingly being asked to take tests every other week for performance-enhancing drugs. He never has been suspended by the league for using a banned substance.

Under the NFL’s policy, a computer randomly picks up to 10 players a week to be drug-tested. Players may have their urine and/or blood tested a maximum of 24 times annually for reasonable cause.
