Chiefs come back late to remain unbeaten

-

Patrick Mahomes threw a twoyard touchdown pass to Travis Kelce with 6:27 left and Kareem Hunt scored on a four-yard run with 1:39 to play as the visiting Chiefs rallied from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to slip past the Broncos 27-23 on ‘‘Monday Night Football.’’

The result enabled the Chiefs (4-0) to remain one of two unbeaten teams in the NFL after four weeks. The Rams are the other.

In between the Chiefs’ touchdowns, the Broncos (2-2) abandoned a running game that had averaged 7.2 yards on 22 carries in favor of three-receiver sets that resulted in a quick three-and-out.

Mahomes passed for 304 yards and the touchdown to Kelce and ran eight yards for another touchdown in the second quarter. The Broncos got touchdown runs from Royce Freeman in the second quarter and Phillip Lindsay in the third.

Winston back as Bucs’ starter

Buccaneers coach Dirk Koetter announced Jameis Winston will start at quarterback when the team plays the Falcons on Oct. 14. The Bucs have a bye this week.

Winston missed the first three games of the season while serving a suspension for violating the NFL’s personal-conduct policy but played the second half of the Bucs’ 48-10 loss Sunday to the Bears.

Ryan Fitzpatrick became the first player in league history to throw for more than 400 yards in three consecutive games in Winston’s absence, but that came to a screeching halt against the Bears.

‘‘Jameis Winston is a guy that’s going to be here way longer than I am,’’ Koetter said. ‘‘He needs to be playing, and he will unless he gets hurt.’’

Reid won’t stop fight vs. NFL

Panthers safety Eric Reid said he isn’t planning to give up his fight against racial injustice in America or his battle with the NFL. He just doesn’t know if his protests against injustice will include kneeling for the national anthem.

Reid said he is ‘‘still considering other ways’’ to protest and continue to raise awareness. He didn’t elaborate but said he won’t drop his grievance against the NFL that alleges teams colluded to keep him out of the league because he protested alongside former 49ers teammate Colin Kaepernick.

Injury report

The Jaguars are preparing to play again without running back Leonard Fournette, who reinjured his right hamstring Sunday against the Jets. Fournette initially injured the hamstring in Week 1 and missed 2½ games.

♦ Rams outside linebacker Dominique Easley had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee suffered in Week 3, and coach Sean McVay said he expects him to be put on injured reserve.

♦ Titans coach Mike Vrabel said safety Kenny Vaccaro will miss a few weeks after injuring his right elbow Sunday against the Eagles.

♦ Dolphins center Daniel Kilgore suffered a torn left triceps Sunday against the Patriots and might miss the rest of the season.
