Brady reaches 500 TD passes in Patriots’ win
Tom Brady reached 500 touchdown passes for his unparalleled career and the Patriots put together their second consecutive win after a mediocre start to the season, beating the Colts 38-24.
Brady connected with receiver Josh Gordon on a 39-yard pass with 9:19 left to join Peyton Manning (539) and Brett Favre (508) as the only quarterbacks to throw for 500 touchdowns. But, as he often does, Brady spread the wealth, hitting running back James White 10 times for 77 yards, and greeting the return of buddy Julian Edelman by completing seven passes for 57 yards to him.
Brady also tied Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri, a former teammate, for most NFL victories with 226.
Brady started off with a pass to Edelman, who was wide open for nine yards. That drew the first of many loud cheers for the 10th-year veteran receiver in his first game since the 2017 preseason, when he tore up a knee.
Colts quarterback Andrew Luck extended his string of games with a touchdown pass by hitting Eric Ebron on a 14-yarder in the third quarter. Luck has a touchdown throw in 28 successive games, tops of any current quarterback.
Packers WRs banged up
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers could be without his top three receivers against the Lions.
Davante Adams injured a calf Wednesday and did not practice Thursday. Randall Cobb injured a hamstring last week, didn’t play on Sunday against Buffalo and hasn’t practiced this week. Geronimo Allison suffered a concussion last week and hasn’t practiced this week, either.
Olsen back at practice
Panthers three-time Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen returned to practice on a limited basis just four weeks after re-breaking his right foot in the season opener.
