Sanchez’s 2 HRs pull Yanks even
Gary Sanchez hit two home runs, including a threerun blast in the seventh inning estimated at 479 feet, Aaron Judge also homered and the visiting Yankees chased David Price after 1‰ innings en route to a 6-2 victory Saturday against the Red Sox that squared their American League Division Series at 1-1. Game 3 is scheduled for Monday in New York.
One night after Chris Sale earned his first career playoff victory, Price failed in his 10th try to win a postseason start and was booed off the field by a sellout crowd at Fenway Park. Price allowed three runs and three hits, including homers to Judge in the first and Sanchez in the second, walked two and struck out none.
Masahiro Tanaka yielded one run — a homer by Xander Bogaerts in the fourth — and three hits, struck out four and walked one in five innings. The Yankees’ bullpen finished with four innings of two-hit relief.
Astros 3, Indians 1
Marwin Gonzalez hit a go-ahead two-run double in the sixth inning, Alex Bregman homered for the second consecutive day and the host Astros slipped past the Indians to open a 2-0 lead in their ALDS. The Astros will go for a three-game sweep Monday in Cleveland.
Gerrit Cole allowed one run — a homer to Francisco Lindor in the third — and three hits, struck out 12 and walked none in seven innings. He joined Tom Seaver in 1973 as the only pitchers to strike out at least 12 batters without a walk in a playoff game.
Indians starter Carlos Carrasco held the Astros scoreless for five innings but left with two runners on and one out in the sixth. Gonzalez greeted reliever Andrew Miller with an opposite-field double to give the Astros the lead, and Bregman gave them an insurance run with a homer against Trevor Bauer in the seventh.
