Butler likely for T-wolves’ opener

- Jimmy Butler

Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau said former Bulls star Jimmy Butler practiced Sunday and is expected to play in the team’s season opener Wednesday against the Spurs.

Butler, who has requested a trade, didn’t play in the Timberwolves’ final preseason game Friday. Thibodeau said he was working on his conditioning.

‘‘They want me to go out here and hoop to the best of my abilities,’’ Butler said. ‘‘Make sure I’m healthy, compete, because that’s what I love to do. I do it for the guys in the same jerseys as me.’’

Although Butler stopped short of assuring he will play Wednesday, Thibodeau said he expects Butler to do so as long as he remains on the roster.
