Tannehill out again with shoulder injury

-

Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill was ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Lions because of an injury to his throwing shoulder.

Tannehill also missed the overtime win against the Bears. Brock Osweiler threw for a career-high 380 yards and three touchdowns as Tannehill’s replacement and will start against Detroit.

Tannehill was on the field in shoulder pads during practice Wednesday but didn’t throw.

Coach Adam Gase said Tannehill’s status remains day-today. Gase said he doesn’t know whether Tannehill will be able to play Oct. 25 at Houston but said Tannehill is expected to return at some point this season.

Bills to start Anderson at QB

The Bills are turning to newly signed veteran quarterback Derek Anderson to fill in for injured rookie starter Josh Allen.

Coach Sean McDermott ruled out Allen because of a sprained elbow on his throwing arm.

Anderson, 35, goes from being lured out of semiretirement last week to serve as Allen’s mentor to preparing to make his first start in nearly two seasons.

The Bills had little choice but to go with Anderson ahead of turnover-prone backup Nathan Peterman, who already has thrown four interceptions in less than four quarters of playing time.

Back to drawing board for Jags

The Jaguars are back in training-camp mode after consecutive lopsided losses. Coach Doug Marrone said they will spend the week working on fundamentals in hopes of trying “to correct a lot of bad football that we have been playing.”

The Jaguars have been outscored 70-21 in road losses to Kansas City and Dallas. They failed to score in the first half of both games and allowed a combined 802 yards and 49 first downs.

No anthem policy coming

Don’t expect the NFL to institute a national-anthem policy this season, if at all.

After the fall meetings concluded, commissioner Roger Goodell emphasized the work teams and players are doing in the community and didn’t say whether the league and the NFLPA are moving closer toward any agreement on the contentious issue.

This and that

Safety Andre Hal, who is in remission after being diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma, resumed practicing with the Texans, giving the team 21 days to take him off the non-football illness list and add him to the active roster.
