Davalos, John Albert

-

Age 96, died peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, October 4, 2018 in Gilbert, AZ. He was born May 27, 1922 in Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico. John left his beloved Mexico in 1942 and headed to the U.S., via Southern California. He would spend hours at the dinner table recounting stories of his young adulthood. John soon met his future bride, Mary Jacqueline (Jackie) Moncada, in the Roseland area in Chicago and was married on May 21, 1949. Longtime residents of Chicago, IL, John and Mary moved to Gilbert, AZ, after he retired from Lever Bros (Hammond, IN). They shared almost 54 years together before Mary passed away in April, 2003.

John had a ferocious appetite to read, especially world history. And he had no problem sharing that history with you, whether you wanted to hear it or not. Ask him the time and he would share with you a view of the world globe educating you of the earth’s circumference, time zones and the speed of the sun along the earth’s surface.

One of John’s most quoted phrases was one attributed to Julius Caesar “Veni, Vidi, Vici” (“I came, I saw, I conquered”). We somehow seem it’s a fitting summary of John’s life.

John is survived by his six children, Steven (Donna) Davalos, Gloria (Tim/deceased) Ferm, Christine (Terry) Begg, John (Liz) Davalos, Debbie (John) Mitchell, and Richard (Jen) Davalos; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren (with one more on the way!), who all will miss him dearly.

A Celebration of Life and Burial will be held on Sunday, October 21st, 11:00 a.m., at Valley of the Sun Mortuary & Cemetery, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Rd., Chandler, AZ 85248. Phone 480-8959232.
