Man on parole after carjacking conviction charged with carjacking in Oak Lawn

A Chicago man who was charged Friday with carjacking a woman in west suburban Oak Park had recently been released on parole for another vehicular hijacking in 2015.

Dwayne K. Corley, 25, was taken into custody Thursday after a woman was carjacked about noon while sitting in her gray 2017 Hyundai Velostar parked in the 6200 block of West 95th Street, according to a statement from Oak Lawn police.

A man opened her door and ordered her to the ground, police said. Once she obeyed, the man took off in her car. He did not display or hint at any weapons.

Oak Lawn officers soon found the Hyundai — with Corley sitting inside, police said.

Corley was taken into custody without incident and the keys were recovered from his pocket. Alice Yin

1 dead, 1 critical in Albany Park shooting

A man is dead and another was critically wounded after a shooting Saturday morning in the Albany Park neighborho­od on the Northwest Side.

About 5:20 a.m., the men were sitting in a vehicle parked in an alley in the 4400 block of North Bernard Street when someone approached them on foot and opened fire, according to Chicago police.

Roberto Ramirez, 23, was shot in his head and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man, 22, was shot in the face and was in critical condition, police said.

Vehicle crashes into grocery store

A vehicle crashed into a grocery store Saturday evening and injured a customer in Hyde Park on the South Side.

The crash happened shortly after 5:20 p.m. at the Hyde Park Produce at 1226 E 53rd St., according to Chicago police.

The vehicle drove through the building and struck a pedestrian in the leg, police and the Chicago Fire Department said.

The pedestrian was taken to a hospital in fair condition, police said. The fire department listed their condition as critical. David Struett

Man run over, killed during argument in West Town

An argument in West Town turned fatal Friday night when a man with a knife was run over by the person he was arguing with.

William Gonzalez, 38, began arguing with a driver of another car about 8:15 p.m. in the 1600 block of West Augusta Boulevard, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Gonzalez stepped out of his passenger seat and approached the other driver while holding a knife, police said. That driver tried to flee the scene and struck Gonzalez.

The driver was questioned by detectives at the scene and was released without being charged, police said. David Struett

Man attempts to lure boy during recess

A man attempted to lure a boy who was at his school’s recess Thursday in the Logan Square neighborho­od on the Northwest Side.

A man driving a small gray four-door SUV with tinted windows called out to the boy who was playing at Mozart Elementary School, according to Chicago police.

The man reportedly offered candy and tried to take the boy’s picture, but the child fled and reported the incident to his counselor.

The man was described as being white, between 30 and 40 years old, with short brown hair that was spiked and wearing a black jacket. Anyone with informatio­n should call (312) 744-8200. Thomas Czaja
