DePaul off to best start since ’08-09

Max Strus had 21 points, Devin Gage added a career-high 14 points and DePaul bounced back after struggling down the stretch in regulation for a 72-70 overtime victory against Penn State on Thursday night at Wintrust Arena.

Jaylen Butz had a career-high 15 rebounds as DePaul won in the Gavitt Tipoff Games matchup. The Blue Demons are 3-0 for the first time since the 2008-09 season.

♦ Tarkus Ferguson had a season-high 25 points as UIC defeated William & Mary 100-95 in overtime at Credit Union 1 Arena. Godwin Boahen added a career-best 24 points, including six in OT for UIC (1-3).

♦ Carsen Edwards had 25 points, 17 in the first half, as No. 23 Purdue powered past Appalachia­n State 92-70 at the Charleston Classic. The Boilermake­rs improved to 3-0.

♦ Jordan Bohannon scored 16 points to lead Iowa to a 77-69 upset of No. 16 Oregon in the second semifinal of the 2K Classic.

Rockets rout Warriors as Anthony departs

James Harden scored 27 points, and the Rockets routed the Warriors 107-86 in a rematch of last season’s Western Conference finals. The Rockets (7-7), who announced before the game that they were “parting ways” with 10-time All-Star Carmelo Anthony, have won three straight and six of their last eight games after starting 1-5 to reach .500 for the first time since they were 1-1.

♦ Draymond Green isn’t apologizin­g for his part in a dustup with Kevin Durant that led to a one-game suspension by the Warriors. Speaking for the first time since the incident Monday night, Green said: “I think there’s no secret that I am an emotional player. I wear my emotions on my sleeve. I play with that same emotion. Sometimes they get the best of me. And [if ] it doesn’t work to my favor, I’m going to live with that.”

♦ Lakers veteran point guard Rajon Rondo will miss three-to-five weeks with a broken right hand.

Preds’ Arvidsson out 6-8 weeks, Subban to IR

Predators forward Viktor Arvidsson will miss six-to-eight weeks with a broken thumb, and defenseman P.K. Subban was put on injured reserve with an undisclose­d injury.

♦ Former football coach Les Miles reached a settlement with LSU for a one-time, lump-sum payment of $1.5 million on his remaining guarantee from the school.

♦ Christian Pulisic played just his second match with the U.S. national team in 13 months, but the Americans lost to England 3-0 in a game that marked Wayne Rooney’s farewell with the Three Lions.
