QB Tannehill to return for Dolphins
Quarterback Ryan Tannehill was among the first players on the practice field Tuesday for the Dolphins, tossing short passes to an assistant equipment manager in an effort to make up for lost time and lost games.
The Dolphins plan to start Tannehill for the first time in seven weeks Sunday against the Colts. Coach Adam Gase said Tannehill, who has been out with an injury to his right (throwing) shoulder, has progressed enough in his recovery to rejoin the lineup and said the quality of his passes appears to be 100 percent.
‘‘You don’t look at him and go, ‘Is he trying to feel his way?’ ’’ Gase said. ‘‘I don’t see that. I see a guy who’s confident in where he’s at and is doing a good job of turning the ball loose and putting it where it needs to be.’’ The Dolphins went 2-3 under backup quarterback

Ankle limited Gurley
Rams coach Sean McVay confirmed multiple reports that running back Todd Gurley was limited by an ankle injury in the second half of the team’s 54-51 victory Monday against the Chiefs after ‘‘getting rolled up on’’ earlier in the game.
Gurley, whose 13-game touchdown streak ended, carried 12 times for 54 yards and caught three passes for 39 yards against the Chiefs. The 15 touches were his fewest of the season.
McVay said he doesn’t think Gurley’s injury will be a long-term problem. He also said the Chiefs’ defensive schemes — particularly a set with 11 men in the box late in the game — led him to call more passing plays.
‘‘There were a lot of instances where they were basically daring you to throw it,’’ McVay said. ‘‘That’s a result of the respect they have for Todd and our running game.’’
Broncos waive ‘Pacman’
The Broncos waived 14-year veteran cornerback Adam ‘‘Pacman’’ Jones after he had appeared in only seven games with them. He had nine tackles, three pass breakups and one interception this season.
Jones, 35, posted a thank-you note to the Broncos on Instagram, saying: ‘‘Well Denver, it was good. Thanks for the opportunity!!! On to the next !!!’’
