Goalie Darling goes on waivers

The Hurricanes put former Blackhawks goalie Scott Darling on waivers Thursday.

Darling, 29, has two years left on his contract beyond this season at a salary-cap hit of $4.15 million. He was the third goalie on the Hurricanes’ depth chart behind Petr Mrazek and Curtis McElhinney.

Former Hurricanes general manager Ron Francis traded a third-round pick to the Hawks for Darling in 2017 and signed him to a four-year, $16.6 million contract. Darling was 15-25-8 with a 3.17 goals-against average and an .889 save percentage in 50 games with the Hurricanes.

Reports: Mets nearing deal for Cano, Diaz

Multiple outlets reported the Mets are closing in on a deal to acquire second baseman Robinson Cano and closer Edwin Diaz from the Mariners for several top prospects. Among the prospects being mentioned are right-hander Justin Dunn and outfielder Jarred Kelenic, the Mets’ first-round pick in 2016 and 2018, respective­ly.

Raptors top Warriors in OT despite Durant’s 51

Kawhi Leonard scored a season-high 37 points, Pascal Siakam added a career-high 26 and the host Raptors overcame a 51-point, 11-rebound performanc­e by Kevin Durant to earn a 131-128 overtime victory against the Warriors. Durant has scored 40 or more points in three consecutiv­e games.

Cantlay, Reed lead in Bahamas

Patrick Cantlay and Patrick Reed shot 7-underpar 65s to share a three-stroke lead over Dustin Johnson and Henrik Stenson after the first round of the Hero World Challenge in Nassau, Bahamas. Tiger Woods shot a 1-over 73 and was tied for 16th in the 18-player field.
