McCoy hurt in Redskins’ loss

-

Redskins quarterback Colt McCoy suffered a fractured fibula in his right leg Monday night in a nasty slide and was replaced by Mark Sanchez in the second quarter of a 28-13 loss in Philadelphia.

McCoy stayed in the game and completed two short passes against the Eagles before limping off with the Redskins (6-6) trailing 7-3. He will miss the rest of the season, coach Jay Gruden said.

McCoy had run to avoid a sack and tried to slide as the Eagles defense rushed toward him. After he planted his right leg into the turf, the lower part of the leg and ankle viciously whipped into safety Malcolm Jenkins’ knee.

McCoy got his chance to start a few weeks ago because Alex Smith suffered a broken right leg that has threatened his career.

Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz threw for 306 yards and two touchdown passes and Darren Sproles ran for another score as the Eagles (6-6) stayed in the hunt for the NFC East title.

No Rodgers in McCarthy’s firing

Two-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers will not be involved in the process of selecting Mike McCarthy’s successor as Packers head coach but is free to provide input, team president Mark Murphy said.

Murphy said Rodgers was also not part of the decision to fire McCarthy after a stunning 20-17 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday that dropped the Packers to 4-7-1.

It appeared most players had already left Lambeau Field by that point, with many saying they had learned of the firing on social media or through text messages.

McCarthy is considered a potential candidate to become the Browns’ next coach. General manager John Dorsey, who is leading the team’s coaching search, spent 21 years as an executive in Green Bay and helped hire McCarthy.

Another allegation for Hunt

Former Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt was at the center of a new alleged incident Monday, the same day he went unclaimed on NFL waivers after a video showed him assaulting a woman in February. According to a police report that surfaced, a 38-year-old suburban Kansas City man says Hunt was among a group of men who assaulted him during a nightclub altercation on Jan. 11 in downtown Kansas City. The victim was treated at a hospital for a broken rib, broken nose and other injuries. No criminal charges were filed.
