Cowboys take control of East

-

Dak Prescott (42-for-54, 455 yards) threw his third touchdown pass to Amari Cooper (10 catches, 217 yards) on the first possession of overtime, and the Cowboys took a big step toward the NFC East title with a 29-23 victory over the Eagles on Sunday in Arlington, Texas.

On third-and-eight, Eagles cornerback Rasul Douglas tipped the pass into the air, and Cooper grabbed it and had a clear path to the end zone from the Philadelphia 7. The Cowboys used almost all of the 10-minute overtime on the 13-play, 75-yard drive, scoring with 1:55 left.

By winning the third overtime game in the last four seasons at A&T Stadium, the Cowboys won their fifth consecutive game and took a two-game lead over the Eagles and Redskins.

The Cowboys finished with 576 yards, their most since gaining 578 against the St. Louis Cardinals in 1973. It was the most allowed by the Eagles since 1966.

Raiders 24, Steelers 21

Chris Boswell slipped on a potential game-tying 40-yard field goal, and the Steelers lost their third consecutive game.

Derek Carr’s six-yard touchdown pass to Derek Carrier gave the Raiders the lead with 21 seconds left. Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers responded with a 48-yard hook-and-lateral play that set up the kick attempt.

Roethlisberger finished 25-for29 for 282 yards and two touchdowns, but he missed the Steelers’ first four drives of the second half with a rib injury.

With running back James Conner out with a sprained ankle, the Steelers gained only 40 yards rushing on 19 carries. The Raiders had one sack, giving them an NFL-low 11 for the season.

Raiders coach Jon Gruden wouldn’t comment on a report that general manager Reggie McKenzie is out at season’s end.

Colts 24, Texans 21

Andrew Luck (27-for-41) threw for 399 yards and T.Y. Hilton had nine catches for 199 yards to lead the Colts, who snapped the Texans’ nine-game winning streak.

It was Hilton’s 11th 150-yard game, setting a franchise record. He also has topped 800 receiving yards for a seventh consecutive season, the longest active streak in the NFL.

Chiefs 27, Ravens 24 (OT)

Harrison Butker missed a 43yard field goal as time expired in regulation but made a 35-yarder with 4:42 left in overtime. The Ravens had a chance, but Robert Griffin’s pass on fourth-and-22 with 1:39 left was incomplete.

Griffin was playing because Ravens starter Lamar Jackson suffered an ankle injury on the previous play. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was 35for-53 for 377 yards.
