Cardinals tied atop NL Central

The visiting Cardinals were no-hit for six innings before erupting for five runs and six hits in the seventh on their way to a 6-0 victory Wednesday against the Royals. The Cardinals won their fifth consecutiv­e game and moved into a virtual tie with the Cubs atop the National League Central.

Dakota Hudson allowed five hits and two walks in six innings but kept the Royals off the scoreboard while the Cardinals were being no-hit by Brad Keller, who allowed hits to the first three batters he faced in the seventh before being pulled.

♦ Rookie Trent Grisham hit a threerun home run in the eighth inning, and the host Brewers rallied to edge the Twins 6-5. The Brewers trailed 5-3 when Grisham blasted a 2-2 fastball from Sergio Romo into the right-field stands.

♦ Gary Sanchez hit a three-run homer in a four-run first inning, and the Yankees edged the visiting Orioles 6-5 for their 16th victory in a row against them this season. The Yankees won the season series 17-2.

♦ The Pirates said right-hander Jameson Taillon, who hasn’t pitched since May 1, will miss the 2020 season after having Tommy John surgery for the second time.

Fire’s winning streak over at two

Brian Fernandez scored two goals, including what proved to be the gamewinner in the 88th minute, to spark the Timbers a 3-2 victory against the Fire in Portland, Oregon. Nemanja Nikolic and C.J. Sapong scored for the Fire, who played a man down for the last 60 minutes.

♦ Paige Monaghan scored her second goal of the game in the third minute of injury time to lift Sky Blue FC to a 2-1 victory against the Red Stars (9-6-2) in Piscataway, New Jersey. Sam Kerr scored in the first minute of injury time for the Red Stars, whose five-game winning streak ended.

Wizards hire Jamison to front office

The Wizards hired former player Antawn Jamison as director of pro personnel. Jamison spent the last two seasons as a scout for the Lakers.
