Yoan will rehab with Charlotte
Yoan Moncada, who’s on the injured list with a hamstring strain, is heading for a minor-league rehab assignment with Class AAA Charlotte.
Moncada was seen taking ground balls at third base before the White Sox’ game against the Astros on Wednesday at Guaranteed Rate Field.
“You see him out there running, and he’s looking really good,” manager Rick Renteria said. “Yesterday, actually, was a really good day. He didn’t complain about anything. He’ll be going out to Charlotte to continue his rehab and play in a couple of games, and then we’ll see where we’re at.”
Moncada has been out since July 31. He’s having the best season of his career with a .301/.358/.535 slash line.
Jimenez breaking out of slump?
Eloy Jimenez had his third multihit game in the Sox’ 13-9 victory against
the Astros since returning from the injured list. He had a .212/.235/.333 slash line since July 18 heading into the game.
Jimenez went 2-for-5, reached base three times and hit a 434-foot home run, his 20th blast of the season.
“When I hit it, I said, ‘That one is gone,’ ” Jimenez said. “When I saw it, I said, ‘That’s way gone.’ ”
Jimenez leads American League rookies in homers and is the 11th Sox rookie to hit 20 or more in a season.
Garcia misses fourth straight game
Renteria said Leury Garcia, who bruised his right index finger on a slide into third base against the Athletics, was “good to go” before the game, but he still missed his fourth consecutive game.
“I had already established my lineup last night,” Renteria said. “I just saw him this morning in the training room. He was throwing against the little spring trampoline that they’ve got in there with the ball because that’s one of the things we wanted to make sure he could do.”
Before getting hurt, Garcia had reached base safely in a career-high 20 consecutive games.
Not concerned about errors
Shortstop Tim Anderson went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two runs.
More important, he didn’t commit an error after picking up his leaguehigh 20th on Tuesday.
‘‘I’ve got a lot of errors, but I can deal with those because I know I’m going all out,” Anderson said before the game. “I continue to get better every day and keep working. I feel comfortable and good with everything I’m doing right now.
“My main focus isn’t really on the errors. I know that’s going to happen. My main focus is just to go out and have my pitcher’s back. The errors that I do make, I’m going all out and at least I know I went 110 percent.”
