WASHINGTON — A day after considering cutting taxes to promote economic growth, President Donald Trump on Wednesday changed course and said he would abandon the idea because the nation already had “a strong economy.” “I’m not looking at a tax cut now,” he told reporters. “We don’t need it. We have a strong economy.” The Congressional Budget Office reported Wednesday that the federal deficit is expected to balloon to more than $1 trillion in the next fiscal year.
Boeing missile interceptor scrapped
WASHINGTON — The Pentagon is pulling the plug on a billion-dollar, technically troubled project to build a better weapon that would destroy incoming missiles. The announced reason for canceling the Boeing contract was that the project’s design problems were so significant as to be either insurmountable or too costly to correct.
Swift to re-record songs
NEW YORK — Taylor Swift plans to re-record her songs after her catalog was purchased by music manager Scooter Braun. “CBS Sunday Morning” previewed some of its pre-taped interview with Swift on Wednesday. The reporter asks Swift if she would consider rerecording her songs in order to own the new versions, and Swift said, “Oh yeah.” When asked if that was the plan, Swift replied with: “Yeah, absolutely.”

Cubs fan turns 111
SUNAPEE, N.H. — Cubs fan Hazel Nilson has celebrated her 111th birthday in New Hampshire. Nilson was born Aug. 21, 1908, in Chicago. A lifelong Cubs fan, she likes to say she was born the last time the team won the World Series before 2016.
