HOROSCOPES: OCTOBER 14, 2019

- GEORGIA NICOLS

MOON ALERT: Avoid shopping or making important decisions until noon. After that, the moon moves from Aries into Taurus.

IF TODAY IS YOUR BIRTHDAY: Actor Ben Whishaw (1980) shares your birthday. You are kind, clever and very tolerant. You are also inquisitive and expressive. This year you are winding up many things you began nine years ago. It’s time to leave behind heavy burdens and move to something new and lighter! Start to identify what is no longer relevant in your life. You are lightening your load to get ready for new beginnings.

Aries (March 21-April 19): Sometimes Mondays are eager, upbeat, “let’s get going” days. But sometimes they’re not because it’s hard to get going. Today you might encounter difficulties with partners and close friends because whatever you want to do seems to encounter obstacles. Try to be part of the solution, not the problem.

Taurus (April 20-May 20): Equipment breakdowns might occur at work. In fact, you might encounter obstacles to whatever your agenda is because either people, circumstances or situations will stand in the way or block your progress. Don’t beat your head against the wall. Accept these limitations just for today.

Gemini (May 21-June 20): Power struggles with your kids (hissy fits and meltdowns) might occur. Likewise, you might encounter similar power struggles in a romantic relationship. Sports activities will also meet with difficulties, accidents or obstacles. Stay chill.

Cancer (June 21-July 22): Be patient with family members because power struggles are likely. Someone might expect you to account for yourself, which you don’t really want to do. (Whaaat?) Plumbing problems or something to do with recycling, garbage and bathrooms might also occur. (Groan.)

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22): Tread carefully and don’t come on like gangbusters trying to persuade someone to agree with you. Alternatively, don’t let someone steamroll over you, either. People are argumentative and pushy — steer clear of these conversations because you don’t need this. Relax.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): You might feel compulsive or obsessed about some kind of financial negotiations or buying something. “I have to have it!” This kind of intensity might also lead to a clash of wills about possessions, something you own, or money, perhaps even a salary dispute. Easy does it.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): You might feel powerful pressure from someone (or maybe even from within)? Perhaps the way you live is being tested? If you see areas of your life that aren’t working out well — this could mean it’s time to let go of old patterns of behavior that aren’t working. Is it time to wake up and smell the coffee?

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): You might have strong feelings of compulsion about something. You either really want to do something or you really don’t want to do something. Fortunately, Venus is in your sign now and this greatly ameliorates your behavior with others. People will love you. Relax.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21):

Do not try to pressure a friend or a member of a group into agreeing with you. Likewise, don’t feel you have to agree with someone else if they are pressuring you. People are pushy because it seems like everyone has an agenda. Go gently.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): Avoid ego battles with authority figures — parents, bosses, the police — anyone. It won’t be worth it. Someone might ask you to account for yourself or your work. (Gulp.) Actually, some are tempted to abuse their power. Avoid this if you can.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): Avoid arguments about foreign interests or different countries. Likewise, avoid arguments about politics, religion and racial issues because people are opinionated and inclined to be insensitive, pushy and even ruthless. Keep your head down and your powder dry.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20): The last thing you need is an argument about shared property, inheritances or anything that you own jointly. This is a very poor day for this kind of discussion, so postpone it for later in the week if you can. Be smart. Keep smiling.
