ANNAPOLIS, Md. — A Maryland man pleaded guilty Monday in the slayings of five staffers at an Annapolis newspaper, and a jury is expected to hear testimony within weeks about whether he was not responsibl­e by reason of insanity. Jarrod Ramos pleaded guilty in the 2018 massacre at the Capital Gazette newspaper.

Man suspected of opening fire at Texas party arrested

GREENVILLE, Texas — A man suspected of opening fire at an off-campus college party Saturday in Texas, killing two people and injuring 12, was arrested Monday. Brandon Ray Gonzales, 23, of Greenville, Texas, was taken into custody at the auto dealership where he worked.

3-month delay for Brexit

Trial opens in lawsuit over ‘Frankenste­in’ use of remains

PHOENIX — A retired FBI agent described a horrific raid of a now-closed body donation facility Monday. Mark Cwynar testified on the opening day of a civil trial that one torso had its head removed and a smaller head sewn on, comparing the discovery to a character from Frankenste­in. The relatives of 23 people whose remains were donated to the Biological Resource Center contend in a lawsuit that the facility mishandled their deceased loved ones. Some FBI employees who went to a 2014 raid of the facility had to undergo counseling, Cwynar said.

‘Joker’ steps are big hit

NEW YORK — A set of outdoor steps in the Bronx featured in the movie “Joker” has become a tourist attraction. The stairs are between two buildings on Shakespear­e Avenue, about a half-mile from Yankee Stadium. Not everyone is thrilled. “We live in the neighborho­od, it’s taking up all of our time, we’re all being inconvenie­nced,” said Bronx resident Cathyrine Spencer.
