Mayfield leaves in huff after reporter’s query
Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield’s frustration finally boiled over.
Annoyed with a reporter’s line of questioning about a drive at the end of the first half of the Browns’ loss Sunday to the Patriots, Mayfield abruptly ended his weekly interview session Wednesday and stormed off.
Mayfield, who is tied for the NFL lead with 12 interceptions, grew increasingly agitated when a reporter asked him about a failed two-minute drive. The Browns were called for a penalty, which Mayfield said prevented them from moving the ball.
‘‘Was I happy with the drive? No, we didn’t score points,’’ Mayfield said. ‘‘That’s the dumbest question you could ask. What?’’
Mayfield then disgustedly walked away from the lectern and toward his locker.
Soon after, Mayfield went on Twitter to explain his exasperation. Picked by some experts to win the AFC North, the Browns (2-5) haven’t played up to enormous expectations and have lost three consecutive games.
‘‘I am who I am and always have been,’’ he wrote. ‘‘Don’t call it emotional when it’s convenient and then passion when it fits . . . . My sense of urgency is at an all-time high. And if I offend anybody along the way, that’s too bad.’’
Chiefs hope Mahomes can go
The Chiefs remain hopeful injured quarterback Patrick Mahomes will be available to play when they host the Vikings on Sunday.
Mahomes, who suffered a dislocated right kneecap two weeks ago, practiced on a limited basis last week before he was declared out Friday. Backup Matt Moore started in his place and played well against the Packers in the Chiefs’ 31-24 loss.
Among the many things coach Andy Reid said he wants to see in practice is the way Mahomes moves on the knee.
‘‘We do enough stuff where he has to move around, and you get a chance to see,’’ Reid said. ‘‘He’s been moving pretty good . . . . And obviously I will be talking and communicating with the doctors.’’
Jaguars QB Minshew has sore shoulder
The Jaguars added quarterback Gardner Minshew to the injury report with soreness in his right shoulder suffered Sunday against the Jets.
The team listed Minshew as a full participant in practice, said he took 100 percent of his normal repetitions and indicated he’s expected to play Sunday against the Texans in London.
Jaguars cornerback Robinson retires
Jaguars cornerback Josh Robinson retired in the middle of his eighth season, informing coach Doug Marrone before the team’s morning meeting. He is the third Jaguars player to retire this year, after linebacker Telvin Smith and safety Zedrick Woods.
