Illinois ends 15-game skid against Wisconsin
Sophomore guard Ayo Dosunmu scored 18 points — including a three-pointer with 46 seconds left — to rally Illinois to a 71-70 Big Ten victory over Wisconsin on Wednesday night in Madison, Wisconsin.
The win snapped a 15-game losing streak for the Illini (11-5 3-2), who hadn’t won a game against the Badgers since 2011.
Freshman 7-footer Kofi Cockburn scored 15 points and reserve guard Alan Griffin added 12, including 4 of 5 shooting from threepoint range.
Kobe King scored a game-high 21 points for Wisconsin (9-6, 2-2), which had its fourgame winning streak snapped.
King hit a three with 22 seconds left to pull Wisconsin to 71-70, but when the Badgers got the ball back after a missed free throw by Illinois forward Giorgi Bezhanishvili, D’Mitrik Trice missed a go-ahead bucket with three seconds left.
The Badgers maintained a slim lead late in the second half, but didn’t score a basket for nearly two minutes. The Illini tied the game on back-to-back threes by Griffin to tie the game at 63 with 3:22 remaining
Indiana 66, Northwestern 62
The Wildcats let a 10-point lead slip away in the second half to the host Hoosiers.
Trayce Jackson-Davis made the tiebreaking free throws with 1:57 left and scored eight of Indiana’s final 10 points to cap the late rally. Indiana trailed by 10 midway through the second half and still trailed 59-54 with 3:20 to go. But Jackson-Davis, who finished with 21 points and seven rebounds, delivered on the offensive end for the Hoosiers (12-3, 2-2 Big Ten).
The Wildcats (5-9, 0-4) only scored three points, on 1 of 6 shooting, the rest of the game.
Pat Spencer had 15 points, five assists and four rebounds to lead the Wildcats, who have lost five consecutive games.
N.C. State 73, Notre Dame 68
Markell Johnson scored 27 points and D.J. Funderburk added 16 points, including two tiebreaking free throws with 1:38 remaining as the host Wolfpack bounced back from a 12-point, second-half deficit.
Prentiss Hubb led the Irish (10-5, 1-3 ACC) with a career-high 24 points, and T.J. Gibbs and John Mooney contributed 14 points each.
Pittsburgh gives Capel 2-year extension
Pittsburgh coach Jeff Capel agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2026-27 season.
