Southbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive were closed from the Hollywood to Belmont exits Thursday after an 80-year-old man suffered a fatal medical emergency and crashed into a guardrail.

Paramedics responded to a crash about 2:20 p.m. at that location and treated the man, according to Chicago Fire Dept. spokesman Larry Merritt. The man hit a guardrail, spun out and blocked southbound traffic, Chicago police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. All lanes were open again by 6:30 p.m., police said.

Woman shot dead in Hammond mobile home park was also shot last year in same location: police

A 55-year-old Hammond woman shot dead in a mobile home early Thursday in northwest Indiana was previously wounded in a shooting months ago in the same home.

Sylvia Williams was found shot about 7:25 a.m. at the Sheffield Estates mobile home park at 3600 Sheffield Ave. in Hammond, according to Hammond police Lt. Steve Kellogg. The shooting happened inside a home and was reported to police by a relative, Kellogg said. She was pronounced dead at a hospital at 8:15 a.m., the Lake County coroner’s office said. Williams died of gunshot wounds, and her death was ruled a homicide.

No one is in custody, Kellogg said. Williams was wounded in separate shooting in the same location on Nov. 1, 2019, Kellogg said. She was treated for two gunshot wounds in a shooting that was considered “domestic related,” he said.

Charles Goforth, 56, was charged with attempted murder in that shooting, but was released after posting a $7,945 bond, according to police and county records.
