As in the last two seasons, the teams will be selected by captains Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James.
Format changes
Quarters 1-3: Each of the first three quarters will begin with a score of 0-0 and will be 12 minutes long.
Fourth quarter: The last quarter will be untimed, and the winner will be the team that first reaches the Final Target Score.
Final Target Score: This will be determined by taking the leading team’s total cumulative score through three quarters and adding 24 points — one of Kobe Bryant’s jersey numbers With no clock in the fourth quarter, the game will end with a made basket or a made free throw. For example, if ...
Score after 3Q Final Target Score Team A: 100 (100+24) = 124
Team B: 95 Whichever team reaches 124 first would win the All-Star Game ... Team A would need to score 24 Team B would need to score 29
The real winners: Local charities
Each team will play for a local charity selected by the team captains. Quarters 1-3: The organization selected by the winner of each of the first three quarters will receive $100,000 — totaling $300,000 for those three quarters.
What about a tie? If the first or second quarter ends in a tie, the $100,000 will roll over to the next quarter’s award.
If the third quarter ends in a tie, that award will be added to the overall award for the winning team’s charity.
Overall winner: Earns $200,000 for its community organization.
What if one team wins everything? If one team wins each of the first three quarters and reaches the Final Target Score first, $500,000 will be donated to the winning team’s charity and $100,000 will be donated to the losing team’s charity.
