UIC can’t keep up with Milwaukee

UIC suffered its worst margin of defeat in Horizon League play this season with a 74-57 loss to Milwaukee on Thursday night at Credit Union 1 Arena.

Guard Tarkus Ferguson had 14 points, six rebounds and four assists to lead the Flames.

UIC (11-14, 6-6 Horizon) shot 42.9 percent and committed only six turnovers in the second half, but the Panthers (11-13, 6-6) had a season-high 12 three-pointers in the game and made 50 percent of their shots in the last 20 minutes.

Hinch: ‘Fair question’ if Astros’ title tainted

Former Astros manager AJ Hinch isn’t dismissing the idea that Houston’s 2017 World Series championsh­ip has been tainted by the sign-stealing scandal that cost him his job.

“It’s a fair question,” Hinch said in an interview with MLB Network. “And I think everyone’s going to have to draw their own conclusion.”

♦ MLB intends to impose new limits on what live video is available to teams, and commission­er Rob Manfred hopes to complete his investigat­ion into alleged electronic sign stealing by the Red Sox before springtrai­ning camps open next week.

♦ Manfred said talks have ended over the proposed sale of a controllin­g share of the Mets from the families of Fred Wilpon and Saul Katz to hedge fund manager Steven Cohen.

♦ Hall of Famer Joe Torre, who has headed baseball operations at the commission­er’s office since 2011, is shifting to a role as special assistant to the commission­er. Former pitcher Chris Young will replace Torre.

♦ Infielder Max Muncy agreed to a threeyear, $26 million contract extension with the Dodgers.

♦ Cuban star outfielder Pedro Leon, 21, is expected to sign with the Astros for around $4 million when a new internatio­nal signing period opens July 2, ESPN reported.

Rams safety Weddle retires

Six-time Pro Bowl safety Eric Weddle, 35, is retiring after 13 seasons in the NFL. The two-time All-Pro finishes his career with 29 intercepti­ons, including four returned for touchdowns, eight forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries, 9oe sacks and 98 pass deflection­s.
