DePaul shocks Marquette

Charlie Moore (15 points) scored DePaul’s final four points at the free-throw line to lift the Blue Demons to a 69-68 victory against Marquette on Tuesday night at Wintrust Arena. Moore made two at the line with 21 seconds left to snap a tie and added two more with six seconds remaining for a fourpoint cushion. Marquette’s Markus Howard made a three-pointer as time ran out.

Romeo Weems added 13 points, Jaylen Butz and Jalen Coleman-Lands each scored 12 and Darious Hall had 11 for the Blue Demons (15-15, 3-14). Howard, coming in as the nation’s leading scorer at 27.6 points per game, had 31 points but shot only 7 of 20. He missed five straight shots in the final 4:32 before his game-ending three-pointer.

UIC 93, IUPUI 59

The fourth-seeded Flames opened Horizon League tournament play with a firstround rout against ninth-seeded IUPUI at Credit Union 1 Arena. Braelen Bridges and Tarkus Ferguson each scored 14 points for the Flames, who led 53-22 at halftime. UIC (16-16) now will host fifth-seeded Youngstown

State, a 63-57 winner against Milwaukee, in a quarterfinal game Thursday. The winner will play No. 1 seed Wright State on Monday.

Northern Illinois 71, Toledo 50

Eugene German had 22 points and Trendon Hankerson had 13 points to lead the Huskies to their sixth consecutive home victory. NIU (18-12, 11-6) clinched a first-round bye in the MAC tournament for the first time since 2006 and will be a three or four seed. The Huskies opens the tourney in a quarterfinal game March 12 in Cleveland.

Rutgers 78, No. 9 Maryland 67

Jacob Young came off the bench and scored 17 points as the Scarlet Knights (1911, 10-9 Big Ten) ended their three-game skid and bolstered their NCAA Tournament hopes. Coupled with No. 16 Michigan State’s victory against No. 20 Penn State, the Terps (23-7, 13-6) are tied with the Spartans for first place in the conference with one game to go. Illinois and Wisconsin are tied in the loss column with two games to play.
