Dak to sign franchise tender
Multiple outlets, including ESPN and NFL Network, reported Sunday that Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is expected to sign his exclusive $31.4 million franchise-tag tender Monday.
As with all franchise tags, the sides have until the deadline July 15 to agree to terms on a long-term contract.
While the future beyond this season still will need to be worked out, Prescott signing the tender means he’s obligated to report to training camp on time and can’t hold out.
Prescott, 26, played out his rookie contract last season and never has missed a game, having started 64 in a row to begin his NFL career. He has compiled a 40-24 record, has completed 65.8% of his passes and has thrown 97 touchdown passes and only 36 interceptions.
Eagles TE Goedert OK after sucker punch
Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert was taken to the hospital Friday after being suckerpunched at a restaurant in Aberdeen, South Dakota, an NFL source confirmed.
Goedert, who grew up in South Dakota and played college ball at South Dakota State, reportedly lost consciousness after being hit but since has recovered, returned home and is fine, the source said.
The incident occurred at the Zoo Bar, according to the Mitchell (South Dakota) Republic, which reported that police were called to the scene on a report ‘‘of people busting glasses and have busted heads.’’
At-risk Pats fans can skip season
The Patriots are offering seasonticket holders at an elevated risk of contracting COVID-19 the chance to skip the 2020 season and still hold on to their seats for 2021, according to an email sent to seasonticket holders last week.
Typically, fans who cancel their season tickets lose the chance to buy those seats in future years and are replaced by someone on a waiting list, if there is one.
