Af­ter a $6 mil­lion re­hab, the 78-year-old Merlo Branch Li­brary, at 644 W. Bel­mont in Lake View, re­opened Wed­nes­day, with so­cial dis­tanc­ing mea­sures in place. Part of the first floor is shown above. The li­brary was closed last year for an ex­ten­sive ren­o­va­tion. Among those at the reded­i­ca­tion was Joan Merlo, daugh­ter of John “Jack” Merlo, the for­mer al­der­man and state law­maker for whom the build­ing is named.
