Mi­ami re­clos­ing; 5 COVID cases in Calif. gov­ern­ment

MI­AMI — Hos­pi­tals rapidly ap­proached ca­pac­ity across the Sun­belt, and the Mi­ami area closed restau­rants and gyms again be­cause of the surg­ing coro­n­avirus Mon­day. Con­firmed cases are on the rise in 41 out of 50 states plus the District of Columbia, and the per­cent­age of tests com­ing back pos­i­tive for the virus is in­creas­ing in 39 states.

A virus out­break in the Cal­i­for­nia Leg­is­la­ture in­def­i­nitely de­layed the state Assem­bly’s re­turn to work from a sched­uled sum­mer re­cess. Five peo­ple in­clud­ing Assem­bly­woman Au­tumn Burke tested pos­i­tive. Coro­n­avirus hos­pi­tal­iza­tions in Cal­i­for­nia have in­creased 56% in the past two weeks while the num­ber of con­firmed cases has jumped 53%.

Sup­port­ers of sus­pended Ind. priest walk out of church ser­vice

CARMEL, Ind. — Sup­port­ers of an Indiana min­is­ter who was sus­pended for call­ing or­ga­niz­ers of the Black Lives Mat­ter move­ment “mag­gots and par­a­sites” walked out of a ser­vice and shouted at a bishop who ended his re­marks with the words “Black lives mat­ter.” The coun­ter­protesters Sun­day at St. Elizabeth Se­ton church in Carmel, Indiana, were op­pos­ing the sus­pen­sion of the Rev. Theodore Rothrock. Af­ter Bishop Timothy Doherty said “Black lives mat­ter” at the end of his open­ing com­ments, one woman shouted “You’re a cow­ard!” be­fore she was es­corted out.
