Reinsdorf thinks MJ would have made bigs

- BY BOB NIGHTENGALE

White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf, who watched Michael Jordan lead his Bulls teams to six NBA titles, said he thinks Jordan would have made it to the majors if he had stuck to baseball.

‘‘Yes, I really do [think so],’’ Reinsdorf told USA Today Sports. ‘‘Maybe as an extra outfielder. Look at what he accomplished.

‘‘He last played baseball in high school at 17, and at the age of 31 he was playing in Double-A. We should have started him in A-ball, but the press accommodations weren’t adequate. So, 14 years later, he competed in Double-A, hit over .250 in the Arizona Fall League.

‘‘If he had played another year, I really believe he would have made the big leagues.’’

In 1994, Jordan played for the Sox’ Class AA team in Birmingham, Alabama, during his NBA hiatus.

Reinsdorf also said he loved ESPN’s 10-part documentary on Jordan, ‘‘The Last Dance,’’ noting it was ‘‘really great for people too young to see Jordan play know how great he was.’’
