Bears cut Braunecker

- Sun-Times staff and wires

The Bears on Thursday released tight end Ben Braunecker, who had emerged in recent years as a special-teams piece and a fill-in, pass-catching tight end.

Signed out of Harvard as an undrafted free agent in 2016, Braunecker played 47 games, starting seven times. When the Bears’ tight end position became thin last year, he had six of his 13 career catches for 59 of his 142 career yards. He scored his only career touchdown in a 20-13 win against the Lions in Week 10.

His season ended in December, when he went on injured reserve after suffering a concussion in Week 12. The Bears signed tight ends Jimmy Graham and Demetrius Harris and drafted Cole Kmet this offseason. They still have eight tight ends on their roster.

Players, teams still negotiating

NFLPA team player representatives are scheduled to meet on a conference call Friday as the players work to finalize an agreement with team owners on the rules and finances for the season, ESPN reported.

The sides are negotiating at least three key points: rules for the training-camp acclimation period, procedures by which players could opt out of the season and how to handle the salary cap going forward after projected revenue losses this year.

Both sides hope to have everything finalized by the time teams begin reporting to camp this weekend.

Call it the Washington Football Team

The NFL team formerly known as the Redskins will go by the Washington Football Team for at least the 2020 season, giving the organization time to choose a new name. All that remains from the Redskins era is the burgundy and gold color scheme.

Broncos, Jeudy agree to terms

Broncos first-round pick Jerry Jeudy agreed to a four-year, $15 million deal that includes an $8.6 million signing bonus. The former Alabama receiver was the 15th pick.
