A change in entertainment coverage reflects changing times

- Chris Fusco Executive Editor

Given the changes the coronavirus continues to make in how we spend our free time, we’ve determined that the Weekend Plus section no longer makes sense to produce for our Thursday print editions. This change takes effect today.

There simply aren’t enough live music, theater, dance and other cultural happenings to keep the section as robust as we’d like, so we’re taking the pages that had been devoted to Weekend Plus and shifting them to other days of the week for now.

This change won’t decrease the number of columns you’ll read by our Richard Roeper, one of the nation’s marquee movie and TV columnists, and we’re reinventing our Weekend Plus “One-Minute Movie Critic” into an online collection of Roeper reviews at suntimes. com/movie-reviews.

We’ll continue to run “The Mix” column in Thursday’s regular entertainment section to prep you for events — virtual or otherwise — for the weekend ahead. And while reviews “From the Ebert Archive” won’t be running at a weekly cadence, we intend to continue showcasing Roger Ebert’s timeless writings when they can shed light on the cultural events of the moment.

Finally, rest assured advice and horoscope fans: Dear Abby’s column and Georgia Nicols’ horoscopes will continue to run as usual. Please email customerservice@

suntimes.com if you have any questions, and thank you for supporting the Sun-Times.
