66 play­ers opt out of sea­son

Sixty-six play­ers — 31 of them line­men — opted out of the 2020 sea­son by the dead­line be­cause of the coro­n­avirus pan­demic. The Pa­tri­ots led all teams with eight opt-outs.

Play­ers with a med­i­cal opt-out will re­ceive a $350,000 stipend, and those vol­un­tar­ily opt­ing out will re­ceive $150,000 as an ad­vance against fu­ture salaries.

The Saints put line­backer Kaden El­lis and long snap­per Zach Wood on the COVID-19 re­serve list.
