Ayton misses virus test

Suns center Deandre Ayton didn’t start the team’s game Monday against the Thunder in the NBA bubble in Orlando, Florida, after missing a mandatory test for the coronaviru­s, multiple outlets reported.

Ayton missed the test Sunday but was tested Monday and cleared to play. Nonetheles­s, he was not in the starting lineup and spent the first quarter riding a stationary bike near the Suns’ bench. He entered in the second quarter and finished with 10 points and six rebounds.

The Suns, meanwhile, improved to 6-0 in the restart with a 128-101 rout of the Thunder. Devin Booker scored 35 points for the Suns, who moved a game behind the eighth-place Grizzlies and a half-game behind the ninthplace Trail Blazers in their bid to earn a spot in the Western Conference play-in series this weekend between the Nos. 8 and 9 teams.

Giannis out after oral surgery

Reigning NBA most valuable player Giannis Antetokoun­mpo missed the Bucks’ loss against the Raptors after having oral surgery, and coach Mike Budenholze­r said it was uncertain whether he would play Tuesday against the Wizards or Thursday against the Grizzlies. The Bucks have clinched the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Budenholze­r said NBA protocols dealing with dental issues enabled Antetokoun­mpo to get treatment without having to spend time in quarantine.

Magic’s Ross leaves bubble for tests

The Magic announced guard Terrence Ross left the NBA bubble to have off-site medical tests not related to COVID-19. They said that the tests were ‘‘advised by league physicians’’ and that Ross’ availabili­ty will be determined by the test results and the NBA’s quarantine protocols.

Clippers’ Harrell returns to bubble

Clippers big man Montrezl Harrell posted on social media that he had returned to the NBA bubble after leaving the team July 17 to tend to his grandmothe­r, who died recently. He will have to quarantine for at least four days.
