Quigley leads way in win vs. Mercury

Allie Quigley scored 20 points on 8-for-17 shooting to lead the Sky past the Mercury 8971 on Wednesday in Bradenton Florida.

Kahleah Copper scored 16 points, Courtney Vandersloo­t had 12 and Azura Stevens 10. Cheyenne Parker added nine rebounds and seven points for the Sky (6-3), who shot 36-for-66 (54.7%) from the field, despite shooting only 1-for-11 from three-point range.

The Sky had a 14-point lead entering the fourth quarter, but it was cut to 70-65 with 5:21 remaining. Courtney Vandersloo­t answered with a three-point play to start a 7-0 Sky run for a double-digit lead.

Skylar Diggins-Smith and Sophie Cunningham each scored 15 points for the Mercury (5-4), who trailed 42-36 at halftime.

The Mercury had just beaten the Sky 9686 on Aug. 10 in a game in which coach James Wade ejected.

Before the game, the Sky waived 5-8 guard Stella Johnson, who appeared in four games. She was signed on June 29 after initially being selected by the Mercury in the third round (No. 29 overall) of the 2020 WNBA Draft.

Storm 100, Dream 63

Jewell Loyd and Sami Whitcomb each scored 20 points for the Storm, who won their sixth consecutiv­e game. Sue Bird had nine points and seven assists in her return for the Storm (8-1) after missing the past five games due to a bone bruise in her left knee.

Sun 70, Wings 66

DeWanna Bonner scored 18 points and Alyssa Thomas added 17 to lift the Sun (3-6). Bonner moved past Maya Moore for 22nd on the WNBA career scoring list.
