Nuggets trump Mitchell’s 57
Donovan Mitchell set a Jazz postseason record by scoring 57 points, but Jamal Murray tallied 10 of his 36 points in overtime to lead the Nuggets to a 135-125 victory Monday on the first day of the NBA playoffs in Orlando, Florida.
Mitchell was 19-for-33 from the field, including six three-pointers, and made all 13 free throws to break the Jazz’s previous playoff scoring mark of 50 points set by Karl Malone against the SuperSonics in 2000.
Kawhi Leonard scored 29 points and Paul George 27, and the Clippers overcame a 42-point, nine-assist effort by Luka Doncic in a 118-110 victory against the Mavericks. Doncic committed 11 turnovers, however.
Fred VanVleet scored 30 points and handed out 11 assists to fuel the Raptors to a 134-110 rout of the Nets. VanVleet was 8-for-10 from three-point range, and the Raptors were 22-for-44 from behind the arc overall.
