Hopkins closing in on extension

New Cardinals receiver DeAndre Hopkins is close to agreeing to a contract extension, according to NFL Network. The four-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time All-Pro has done the deal himself.

After Hopkins was traded from the Texans to the Cardinals in March, it was reported that his desire for a new deal was the reason behind the trade. The Cards began to work on a deal shortly after acquiring him.

Raiders backup QB Mariota goes on IR

The Raiders put backup quarterbac­k Marcus Mariota on injured reserve with an undisclose­d injury. Mariota has been dealing with a pectoral strain and has been limited in recent practices, according to NFL Network. In a correspond­ing move, the Raiders signed former Notre Dame quarterbac­k DeShone Kizer to the practice squad.

Jags add QB Glennon to practice squad

The Jaguars signed former Bears quarterbac­k Mike Glennon to their practice squad, adding a veteran under the NFL’s revamped roster rules. Also, running back Ryquell Armstead is expected to miss significan­t time after landing on the COVID-19 list for the second time in five weeks.

Steelers add ex-Chiefs punter Colquitt

The Steelers signed veteran punter Dustin Colquitt, son of two-time Steelers Super Bowl punter Craig Colquitt, and released punter Jordan Berry. Colquitt, 38, was released by the Chiefs in April after 15 seasons with the team.
