Braves set new NL mark with 29 runs

-

Adam Duvall drove in nine runs with three homers, including a grand slam, and the Braves set a National League record for runs in a single game in a 29-9 romp against the Marlins on Wednesday night in Atlanta.

Ronald Acuña Jr.’s bases-loaded double in the sixth inning gave the Braves the new franchise record for runs in a single game. The previous record was 23 runs, which the Braves, then in Milwaukee, tallied in the second game of a doubleheader against the Cubs on Sept. 2, 1957.

The Braves came up just shy of the Rangers’ record of 30 runs, which came against the Orioles in 2007. The 1955 White Sox and 1950 Red Sox also scored 29 runs in a game.

According to the Elias, they became the first MLB team to score at least 22 runs through the first five innings since the Blue Jays (24 runs) in a June 26, 1978, win against the Orioles.

Freddie Freeman drove in six runs with three hits, including a two-run homer. Duvall hit one of the team’s three homers an 11-run second inning, knocking Pablo López out of the game. Duvall hit another homer, his 12th, in a six-run fifth and added the slam in the seventh off Josh Smith.

Duvall also had a three-homer game on Sept. 2. He becomes the first player with two three-homer games in a season since the Red Sox’s Mookie Betts in 2018.

Corbin Burnes allowed one hit and struck out 11 in seven innings in his third straight start without an earned run, and the Brewers set a franchise record with 13 extrabase hits and had five home runs and 21 hits in a 19-0 blowout against the Tigers.
