Seahawks stop Cam on last play, edge Pats

-

Cam Newton was stopped at the 1-yard line on the final play, and the Seahawks held off the visiting Patriots for a 35-30 victory Sunday.

Newton led the Patriots 80 yards in the closing moments in an effort to spoil the performance of Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, who tied his career high with five touchdown passes.

The Patriots reached the Seahawks’ 1 on a 12-yard pass from Newton to N’Keal Harry with three seconds left. On the final play, Newton tried to run to the left but was upended by defensive end L.J. Collier. Newton, who had two rushing touchdowns in the game, never got close to the goal line, and the Seahawks’ sideline erupted in celebration.

In addition to his two rushing touchdowns, Newton threw for 397 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Wilson, meanwhile, threw for 288 yards and tossed touchdown passes to Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf, David Moore, Freddie Swain and Chris Carson. It was the fourth fivetouchdown game of his career.

49ers 31, Jets 13

The 49ers suffered a series of key injuries in the first half but still found a way to roll past the host Jets.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (right ankle), defensive end Nick Bosa (left knee) and running back Raheem Mostert (knee) didn’t play in the second half of the 49ers’ rout. Garoppolo was 14-for-16 for 131 yards with two touchdown passes and a 140.4 rating and Mostert had eight carries for 92 yards and an 80-yard touchdown for the 49ers, who led 24-3 at the half.

There was no official word about the severity of the injuries, but the 49ers fear that Bosa might have torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee and that Garoppolo might miss some time with a high ankle sprain.

Rams 37, Eagles 19

Jared Goff completed his first 13 passes and threw three touchdown passes to Tyler Higbee, who had three scoring catches all last season, to fuel the visiting Rams past the Eagles. Goff finished 20-for-27 for 242 yards, and the Rams helped him out by running for 191 yards.

The game matched the top two picks in the 2016 draft in Goff and Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, who was 26-for-43 for 242 yards but threw two interceptions.

Ravens 33, Texans 16

The Ravens got a touchdown pass from Lamar

Jackson, a touchdown run from Mark Ingram and a touchdown return on a fumble recovery by L.J. Fort to wallop the host Texans. The Ravens have won 14 consecutive regular-season games, the longest streak since the Panthers won 18 in a row in 2014-15.

Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson threw for 275 yards and a touchdown, but the Ravens intercepted him once, sacked him four times and hit him 13 other times.

Titans 33, Jaguars 30

Ryan Tannehill threw four touchdown passes, Stephen Gostkowski kicked a tiebreaking 49-yard field goal with 1:36 left and the Titans edged the visiting Jaguars for their seventh victory in a row against their AFC South rival.

Tannehill has gone 10 consecutive regular-season games with at least two touchdown passes and no interceptions.

Washington owner Snyder in quarantine

Washington owner Dan Snyder and wife Tanya didn’t attend the team’s 30-15 road loss to the Cardinals after coming into contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus, club physician Anthony Casolaro said in a statement. Both Snyders have tested negative but are quarantining as a precaution.
