Barkley’s season over

- AP

Giants running back Saquon Barkley is done for the season after an MRI exam Monday confirmed he had torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on a seemingly harmless tackle Sunday against the Bears.

Coach Joe Judge said backups Dion Lewis and Wayne Gallman would replace the 2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Barkley was hurt near the Bears’ sideline after trying to fend off safety Eddie Jackson on a six-yard carry early in the second quarter. The No. 2 overall draft choice in 2018 dragged his right leg behind him as he was helped back across the field to the Giants’ sideline.

Beat-up Niners lose Bosa, Thomas

The 49ers confirmed that 2019 Defensive Rookie of the Year Nick Bosa and fellow starting defensive lineman Solomon Thomas each have a season-ending torn anterior cruciate ligament.

They’re also dealing with a high ankle sprain to quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo that likely will sideline him this week, a sprained medial collateral ligament that has shut down Raheem Mostert and injuries to running back Tevin Coleman (knee), defensive tackle D.J. Jones (ankle) and linebacker Dre Greenlaw (thigh) that all came in the victory over the Jets on Sunday.

Carr carries Raiders past Saints

Derek Carr threw three touchdown passes and the Raiders gave their new fans in Las Vegas plenty to celebrate, even if they weren’t allowed in the new $2 billion stadium, by beating the Saints 34-24.

The Raiders (2-0) overcame an early 10-point deficit to the Saints (1-1) and opened the season with two straight wins for the fourth time in the last 25 seasons.

Carr completed 28 of 38 passes for 282 yards, and tight end Darren Waller had 12 receptions for 103 yards.

McCaffrey to miss at least a month

Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey is expected to miss four to six weeks with a high right ankle sprain he suffered Sunday against the Buccaneers. The Panthers will turn to Mike Davis as their starting running back when they visit the Chargers this Sunday. The team also is expected to sign Reggie Bonnafon, McCaffrey’s primary backup last season, from the practice squad.

Lock out weeks; Sutton out season

Broncos quarterback Drew Lock could be out until midseason with a severely bruised throwing shoulder, and Pro Bowl wide receiver Courtland Sutton tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and is done for the season.

Vikings LB Barr out for year

Vikings four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Anthony Barr will miss the remainder of the season with a torn pectoral muscle suffered Sunday against the Colts.
